Colombia travel diary | solo trip to Colombia part 3

17/01/2023 | Reageer

This morning – day 8 – I flew back to CTG with Avianca. I wanted to be back early for my KLM friend Ilona. She had requested a layover to go on the road with me. We decided to go to Movich hotel together to see the nice view in Cartagena. The weather was very disappointing today and there was massive flooding on the street. After some pictures at Movich, we went for lunch somewhere in the old center. We couldn’t go anywhere because of the weather! In the end we went for a drink at Townhouse Rooftop – a nice place I’ve been to before. [Lees meer…]

A month ago I came back from Mexico. What a journey this was! A very emotional one, but also one that has helped me grow a lot and one where I have met a lot of great people. The beautiful place where I took these photos is on the island of Isla Holbox at beach club Zomay. I’ve had this dress for years and I really wear it in a lot of summer places. It’s a dress that never gets boring! I received this hat a few months ago as a collab with Le Olive and I also like to take it on holiday. [Lees meer…]

In this blog post I will tell you about my solo trip experience in Medellin – Colombia. Formerly known as quite a ‘unsafe’ place in the world and nowdays completely different and absolutely amazing! I would like to tell you how I experienced this place in this post. I do want to reveal that I soon regretted having only stayed here for a 3 day trip! [Lees meer…]

In the meantime I have not even been back for 10 days from my beautiful Colombia trip. I did this outfit shoot together with Karmen Cartagena – this is also really my favorite outfit from Cartagena and I think it fits perfectly with this place. These photos were taken in beautiful Getsemani. If you are looking for a nice photographer during your trip to Cartagena, I highly recommend her. I did this shoot during my last day in Cartagena. I wanted to have guaranteed good photos of my solo trip. I got about 20% off the original price on this shoot, as a partial collaboration. [Lees meer…]

Mexico travel diary | Solo trip to Mexico part 1

16/07/2022 | Reageer

In this travel post I will take you on a solo trip to Mexico, where I will share my experiences and tips extensively, as in a diary. I don’t want to give too much away yet, but to start with how I experienced the whole trip: As one of the most beautiful trips I’ve ever made. Way beyond my expectations. Especially because of the special people and unexpected fun things that I got on my path. This journey literally felt like a pink cloud – pure happiness, great gratitude, euphoria and peace. I am extremely grateful to be able to do these beautiful things in my life and am certainly aware of this privilege. I am grateful that I can give myself solo travel as a gift, and will continue to do so. I hope these travel diaries might inspire you to go on a solo trip yourself. If not, I hope it is at least a fun activity to take you on this 11 day solo adventure. With a big smile on my face, I start this travel diary. Even if nobody would read it, so to speak, I just like to have everything worked out for myself and to be able to share it. I always get that feeling from back then (and a certain homesickness) when I read or type this. My posts are like a kind of public diary. Of course I always write it out in broad outline, otherwise it is really too much to read. [Lees meer…]

Solo Travel diary | 5 day May solo trip to Dubai

06/10/2021 | Reageer

Hi everyone. I made a very ‘special’ blog post about my Dubai trip at the beginning of May. I want to say in advance that this is a journey in corona time, so you can certainly have an opinion about this. But published negative opinions are not welcome on my platform. Nor do I mean to ‘motivate’ people with this to travel to a risk area and not to stick to the ‘urgent advice’. And, I would like to mention here, that traveling to (orange areas) is discouraged, but not prohibited. (Holiday to an orange area is therefore not prohibited, and the quarantine is not mandatory either) And I have been tested both there and back (3x in total). I have to tell you that this was a pretty pricey trip, because of the very expensive corona tests. The shared apartment, the crew airline tickets (IPB) and everything around it were not even that expensive.

Japan travel diary | 2019 Solo trip to Japan part 3

03/12/2019 | Reageer

I cropped this last part of my 14 day trip into one post as I haven’t taken many photos in the last few days there. This is day 9 to 14. One of the last days I heard from a KLM flight attendant that my standby travel flight was as good as full, so I booked an extra night in my hostel in Tokyo and converted the KLM IPB flight to a new one day later. This day I went to Kyoto again from Osaka, this time with Yuka. Osaka and Kyoto are not long apart by public transport, I believe half an hour, so no other hostel was needed. Yuka and I have known each other since 2013 and have seen each other in the Netherlands and last year in Japan as well. [Lees meer…]

Japan travel diary | 2019 Solo trip to Japan part 1

01/12/2019 | 1 Reactie

In November, I went to Japan for 14 days. Just like I did in 2018, I went solo. I had booked the direct KLM flights via crew standby travel. After a flight of 10.5 hours in total, I left to the city the same way as last year, with the Narita express – a direct train connection to central Tokyo at Narita Airport station. The price of a return trip is 4000 yen (around 28 euros) – For the standby/crew members among us, you can also use the return ticket for another day, in case your plans change within 14 days. Portugal Travel Diary | Solo travel to Lisbon Part 1

In this post, I am going to share my second (well.. first completely alone) solo travel experience with you. Maybe this gives you that extra push to go on a mini solo trip on your own, or maybe you will just like reading about it. I’d love to share my most lovely pictures and experiences of this beautiful city with you. I hope you will like it! Lisbon is a city that I find absolutely fantastic and love to visit over and over again. The city is near the Tagus (Tejo) River which ends in the sea. It is a city with beautiful buildings, lovely atmosphere and always plenty to do. [Lees meer…]

One day I realized:

I wasn’t afraid of being and travelling alone.

I was afraid of losing my life while waiting for someone else.

So I booked the flight. ✈️

What’s something you’ve been waiting for?

Based on facts 🌴✈️ Can you relate?

"What do you like to do for fun?"

Leave the country.

New places, new people, new stories.
Every single time.

At what point does it stop being a hobby and become a personality trait? 😂

Guatemala, one of the most heartwarming places I’ve experienced so far. A destination that still crosses my mind almost daily. And now in my top 5 favorites.

After being lucky enough to solo travel to so many beautiful places around the world, Guatemala instantly became one of the places that touched me the most.

The people, the atmosphere, the volcanoes, Lake Atitlán, the coffee, the food, UNESCO Antigua… this country has a soul that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

I met beautiful humans I still speak to from time to time, and I’m grateful to now call some incredible Guatemalans my friends.

I travelled here with my new camera, and I’m so thankful I was able to capture parts of this beautiful country through my own eyes, while also collaborating with amazing companies along the way.

I remember my eyes being teary while being on a boat at Lake Atitlan, and the moment I saw the Volcano erupt during the hike - one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Some places impress you.
Others stay with you.
Guatemala did both. 🌋🇬🇹

Wait for the end! ✈️
Some women wait for love to start living.
I booked the ticket anyway.

Some of the most beautiful moments of my life happened because I stopped waiting, for permission, for certainty, for someone to come with me.

Solo travelling taught me that freedom can be lonely sometimes, but also deeply empowering. It gave me sunsets in countries I once only dreamed about, strangers that became memories, confidence I never learned at home, and versions of myself I would’ve never met if I stayed safe.

I may not have everything figured out yet, but I’ve lived. Deeply. Wildly. Internationally.
And honestly? That already makes me rich in life.

I know it’s not a possibility for every woman in the world to do this. Something travel also showed me over and over again.

Tulum, mi destino mágico 🌙🌴🌵
Some months ago I had the beautiful privilege to stay at @villa_hunab_ku multiple times - an absolute masterpiece and truly my aesthetic dream place in Tulum.

I remember sitting in the bathtub on the balcony of the master bedroom, the one I chose out of the five… in complete silence. Just looking out into the trees, feeling the warmth, and realizing how incredibly grateful I felt in that moment.

Grateful to be able to create a life where I get to travel, experience places like this, and even work with them. Something that once felt far away, and now feels like something I’ve slowly built for myself - step by step, by staying true to who I am and not letting other people’s opinions define me or hold me back.

At this villa, everything felt calm.
Safe. Peaceful. Grounded.

Waking up slowly, biking through Aldea Zamá to Nimenõ for my favorite coffee and breakfast just a few minutes away… those simple moments that end up meaning the most.

This villa is perfect for a group trip or something like a bachelorette, but I also loved experiencing it in my own way. Having the space to myself, inviting friends over sometimes, and just enjoying the balance between connection and stillness.

That balance felt very aligned with me.

Gracias en todos, @villa_hunab_ku 🤍

Tulum, mi destino mágico 🌙🌴🌵 Some months ago I had the beautiful privilege to stay at @villa_hunab_ku multiple times - an absolute masterpiece and truly my aesthetic dream place in Tulum.
