This was officially my shortest trip to Mexico ever — just 5 nights over the span of 6.5 days. And yet… it felt like coming home. I know what you’re thinking: “You flew across the world for just a few days?” But for me, Mexico isn’t just a destination. It’s a feeling. A memory. A part of me. [Lees meer…]

At the time of my stay, I happened to be the only guest, which meant I spent a lot of time with Rodrigo, Diana, her husband, and their kids, practicing some Spanish with them. Watching the stars from the beach every night was one of the most special moments of my stay.[Lees meer…]
Hola everyone! This is already my sixth solo trip to Mexico, and yet this country continues to captivate me in ways that are hard to describe. The first time I came here in 2022, I instantly fell in love. Since then, I’ve returned time and time again, and now I’m embarking on another Mexican adventure. The last time I stayed here for such a long period was in 2022. Back then, I spent over 3.5 weeks, but for a different reason—I was with someone from Mexico. From that moment on, everything changed. My trips after that were solo, but never truly alone, as over the years, I’ve made incredible friends here. And even after six visits, this country still feels magical. [Lees meer…]
Hi everyone! It’s time for a new travel diary. A few weeks ago, I travelled to Canada – a country high on my wish list. I wanted to visit the beautiful nature, lakes and hiking areas, but the reason for my visit this time was for something else. I have family living in Canada who come to the Netherlands every 2-3 years, and by now a lot of travel friends in and around Toronto and other places in Canada. Enough reasons to visit the country! I only planned a short visit, so I would spend 4 nights with my family, and 4 in Toronto. I will definitely tell more about this adventure in this travel diary. Canada always attracted me very much, because the people I click with the best when travelling, are often the Canadians. [Lees meer…]
Hi everyone! This part of my travel diary is extra long, because it contains my entire extensive return journey, but also a lot of photos, because Ubud was the place where I planned most activities and wanted to take photos. What really appeals to me about Ubud, is also the fact that in my experience it is more the ‘authentic’ Bali, without beach and sea – but many rice fields, nature and waterfalls. I am excited to tell you about my experiences here! Will you read along? [Lees meer…]
After an incredibly long Grab ride of over 3 hours for just 38 kilometers – yes, Bali traffic is truly no joke – I finally arrived in Uluwatu late in the afternoon. I had booked Karma Backpackers hostel, one of the few options here. It immediately struck me that everything here is a bit more expensive than in Canggu: food, drinks, and even parties. Although it’s still cheaper than in the Netherlands, budgeting is a tiny bit more necessary here. Uluwatu is known for its beautiful beaches, luxury beach clubs, and relaxed atmosphere. [Lees meer…]
Hi everyone! This past May, I had an amazing trip of over three weeks to Bali. Bali had been on my bucket list for a long time, and thanks to my flying colleagues, I found out that flying IPB via Dubai was quite doable. So, I decided to take the IPB route AMS-DXB-DPS with Emirates. [Lees meer…]
Tulum is a place where I hear mixed stories from travelers. Many find it overrated and expensive, but for me, it’s my favorite spot in the world. My days in Tulum are usually very relaxed. I often start with a leisurely breakfast or brunch, then head to a cenote or beach, and in the evening, I might have drinks with friends or attend a cool party hosted by one of my DJ friends. I’m fortunate to know many people, have friends in various organizations, and enjoy great collaborations in Tulum – which definitely shapes my experience differently. If I hadn’t stayed at Mayan Monkey in 2022 – in my opinion, the best hostel (next to Meteora) I’ve ever stayed at in Mexico – my life would be completely different right now. [Lees meer…]
