Hungary travel diary | 3 day solo trip to Budapest

17/09/2025 | Reageer

Welcome back to a new travel post! It’s been a while since my last update, but more are coming soon. I’m traveling a bit less this year, which makes the trips I do take feel even more special. Budapest had been high on my list for ages. I’d heard it’s one of the best solo travel destinations – safe, fun, and full of things to explore – and everyone I knew who’d been there had nothing but good things to say. So when I found a one-way ticket from Eindhoven Airport for just €55, I couldn’t resist.

Day 1 – Eindhoven & Budapest – 28-08-2025

With only hand luggage allowed, I bought a new spacious backpack. Packing light for a short two-night trip is second nature to me. From the airport I took the shuttle bus to the city center – under €6 and only 35 minutes. From there it was a short walk to my hostel, but I first stopped for breakfast at a place called ‘Awake’ – and two cappuccinos. A great start to the day, though I quickly noticed that Budapest isn’t as cheap as you might expect.

At the hostel I soon met a group of travelers through the Hostelworld app. We rented bikes and explored the city together: drinks at a bar, a stop at one of the famous ruin pubs, Mexican food for dinner, and ice cream to finish the evening. I love how easy it is to meet people when you’re solo traveling.

Later that night I ended up at Fat Mama, (Yes, this is actually the name! haha.) next to Maverick Soho, with Melody, an American woman I had met earlier that afternoon. We clicked instantly and spent hours chatting and laughing – one of those unexpected connections that make a trip unforgettable.

After a day full of first impressions, good food, and new friends, I headed back to my hostel with a big smile. Budapest had already stolen my heart – and this was only the beginning.

Day 2 – Budapest – 29-08-2025

The day started with breakfast at Franziska with Melody. It’s one of the most popular brunch spots in town, so there was a line, but the food and vibe were worth it. Afterwards we cycled to the impressive Parliament Building, took some photos, and crossed the bridge into Buda. The views over the Danube and the contrast between Buda and Pest make it one of the city’s highlights.

When Melody had to work, I joined other travelers to visit Fisherman’s Bastion, a fairytale-like viewpoint over the city. The most special part of the day was finally meeting someone I had known online since 2013 through the fashion app Polyvore. After years without contact, we had dinner together and it felt like no time had passed.

In the evening I went out again with Melody and Ethienne, an Australian traveler. We cycled across the illuminated bridges, had drinks, wandered through the lively streets, and ended up once more at Fat Mama. Budapest at night is pure magic – vibrant, cozy, and bike-friendly, making it a perfect destination for solo travelers.

Day 3 – Budapest & Amsterdam – 30-08-2025

On my last day, I met Melody and Ethienne for breakfast at Circusz, one of Budapest’s top-rated brunch spots. As expected, there was a long line, but it was worth it – the Eggs Benedict and cappuccinos were amazing, and it felt great to enjoy one last cozy meal together.

Afterwards, Melody had to work, so Ethienne and I went cycling around the city. We visited the moving Shoes on the Danube Bank, a Holocaust memorial that left a deep impression – a quiet moment of reflection in contrast with the lively city.

Before heading to the airport, we met up with Melody again for a farewell coffee at Muse. There, something really special happened: a girl I didn’t know walked up to me and said, “You have no idea, but when you walk in, everyone notices you. You radiate light and such a beautiful energy.” It was such a heartfelt compliment that it truly made my day.

After saying goodbye to both Melody and Ethienne, I took the 100E bus back to the airport, had some nice chats with fellow travelers, and finally flew home with KLM – on a crew ticket this time. The perfect ending to a short but unforgettable trip. ✨

Tips for Budapest

✨ Flights: Eindhoven–Budapest can be super cheap; I paid €55 for a one-way.

✨ Hand luggage only: A spacious backpack works perfectly for a 2–3 night trip.

✨ Airport transfer: Take the 100E bus – under €6 and only 35 minutes to the city center.

✨ Cycling: Budapest is surprisingly bike-friendly, with good paths and scenic routes across the bridges. A fun way to explore the city.

✨ Breakfast spots: Popular places like Franziska and Circus are a must, but expect queues. Totally worth the wait!

✨ Food & drinks:

  • Fat Mama: cozy for dinner, drinks, and meeting people.
  • Plenty of great Mexican options too for variety.
    ✨ Highlights:
  • Parliament Building – iconic and a must for photos.
  • Fisherman’s Bastion – fairytale-like views.
  • Shoes on the Danube Bank – moving and powerful, not to be missed.
✨ Solo travel: Budapest is perfect for solo travelers. It’s easy to meet people via apps like Hostelworld, and hostels are very social.
✨ Budget: Don’t expect Budapest to be super cheap; prices are higher than you might think.

Guatemala, one of the most heartwarming places I’ve experienced so far. A destination that still crosses my mind almost daily. And now in my top 5 favorites.

After being lucky enough to solo travel to so many beautiful places around the world, Guatemala instantly became one of the places that touched me the most.

The people, the atmosphere, the volcanoes, Lake Atitlán, the coffee, the food, UNESCO Antigua… this country has a soul that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

I met beautiful humans I still speak to from time to time, and I’m grateful to now call some incredible Guatemalans my friends.

I travelled here with my new camera, and I’m so thankful I was able to capture parts of this beautiful country through my own eyes, while also collaborating with amazing companies along the way.

I remember my eyes being teary while being on a boat at Lake Atitlan, and the moment I saw the Volcano erupt during the hike - one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Some places impress you.
Others stay with you.
Guatemala did both. 🌋🇬🇹

Wait for the end! ✈️
Some women wait for love to start living.
I booked the ticket anyway.

Some of the most beautiful moments of my life happened because I stopped waiting, for permission, for certainty, for someone to come with me.

Solo travelling taught me that freedom can be lonely sometimes, but also deeply empowering. It gave me sunsets in countries I once only dreamed about, strangers that became memories, confidence I never learned at home, and versions of myself I would’ve never met if I stayed safe.

I may not have everything figured out yet, but I’ve lived. Deeply. Wildly. Internationally.
And honestly? That already makes me rich in life.

I know it’s not a possibility for every woman in the world to do this. Something travel also showed me over and over again.

Tulum, mi destino mágico 🌙🌴🌵
Some months ago I had the beautiful privilege to stay at @villa_hunab_ku multiple times - an absolute masterpiece and truly my aesthetic dream place in Tulum.

I remember sitting in the bathtub on the balcony of the master bedroom, the one I chose out of the five… in complete silence. Just looking out into the trees, feeling the warmth, and realizing how incredibly grateful I felt in that moment.

Grateful to be able to create a life where I get to travel, experience places like this, and even work with them. Something that once felt far away, and now feels like something I’ve slowly built for myself - step by step, by staying true to who I am and not letting other people’s opinions define me or hold me back.

At this villa, everything felt calm.
Safe. Peaceful. Grounded.

Waking up slowly, biking through Aldea Zamá to Nimenõ for my favorite coffee and breakfast just a few minutes away… those simple moments that end up meaning the most.

This villa is perfect for a group trip or something like a bachelorette, but I also loved experiencing it in my own way. Having the space to myself, inviting friends over sometimes, and just enjoying the balance between connection and stillness.

That balance felt very aligned with me.

Gracias en todos, @villa_hunab_ku 🤍

Had to repost some of these images and videos as Instagram affected the quality of some of my older content - still too beautiful not to share again ❤️‍🩹

Tulum, mi destino mágico 🌙🌴🌵 Some months ago I had the beautiful privilege to stay at @villa_hunab_ku multiple times - an absolute masterpiece and truly my aesthetic dream place in Tulum.
