Hi everyone! Welcome to a new travel diary where I take you – largely solo – to a safe, clean, prosperous and beautiful part of Brazil – Florianópolis. If you are looking for a beautiful, safe, clean and adventurous travel destination in Brazil, this is your place. There are a lot of people I’ve spoken to on my past travels who often skip Brazil while backpacking through South America because of a ‘bad image’ – sadly (however, I personally also do not recommend Rio myself, while I absolutely love Brazil). I have therefore completely devoted this travel diary to a part of Brazil that I think you should definitely visit if you have the chance! And it also deserves much more fame. Florianópolis is a place known for its 40+ beaches, hiking and climbing routes, nature, surf spots, good food, oysters, fresh fish, safety and social life. A pearl in South America where you can relax and enjoy the real ‘Brazilian feeling’ – with a slightly European touch from the ‘descendants’ who have lived here for generations from, for example, Germany and Italy. Today, my journey started with luckily getting a seat at the gate on the flight to Mexico City (CDMX). I was really looking forward to visiting this destination and secretly looking forward to it even more than going back to Japan. I have quite a love for Mexico, so I love to go back often. It was with a double feeling, because of my situation in November. I wanted to move between the pain of a circumstance and the love of this place. The best way to get out of something is to go straight through and into it. I decided to take the bull by its horns, because I don’t want to let something win against me if it can cost or affect me something very beautiful. Last November I already did that with all the strength I had in me. And this journey made me realize how strong and courageous I was last fall, and how that same money goes back for now. In this post, I will also tell about my last days in Mexico, Playa del Carmen, Bacalar and the amazing other things and places I got to experience during my last days here. Chitzen-Itza is one of the wonders of the world that I was eager to visit and hadn’t visited last time. Moreover, I hadn’t crossed off a single wonder of the world so far! Mexico travel diary | one month solo in Mexico part 2

This morning on November 22 started with an extensive brunch with Cyni at Ki’bok coffee in La Veleta – next to Tulum jungle gym, where I went with my rented bike from my hostel. I have to tell you that I reach almost everything here in Mexico within the villages by bicycle. We ate divinely delicious chilaquiles at this place – which I definitely want to come back for! After lunch we would go with Cyni’s friends to Vagalume, where they also allowed me to enter without an entrance fee and without a minimum spend. Via google maps I followed my way on my bike alone through quite remote roads and I have to tell you that I found that the only time I didn’t feel safe – and that during the day! In the end I suffered on the beach with Cyni’s dear friends – Vagalume is a cool high-end beach club that is known for the ‘hands’ that many people take pictures with. On November 17th, I left for Mexico for the 2nd time in a year. This is the ‘official’ 8th trip of this year. This first part is in Playa del Carmen, Holbox and Tulum – the first part of my journey. The reason why I would go for more than a month is because I wanted to bridge the winter in the Netherlands during my annual leave, I wanted to go back to dear friends who live there, I wanted to travel solo again and because my (now former) long-distance love lived in Tulum and I had met there earlier this year – which was originally my biggest reason to stay this long. This morning – day 8 – I flew back to CTG with Avianca. I wanted to be back early for my KLM friend Ilona. She had requested a layover to go on the road with me. We decided to go to Movich hotel together to see the nice view in Cartagena. The weather was very disappointing today and there was massive flooding on the street. After some pictures at Movich, we went for lunch somewhere in the old center. We couldn’t go anywhere because of the weather!
