In November, I went to Japan for 14 days. Just like I did in 2018, I went solo. I had booked the direct KLM flights via crew standby travel. After a flight of 10.5 hours in total, I left to the city the same way as last year, with the Narita express – a direct train connection to central Tokyo at Narita Airport station. The price of a return trip is 4000 yen (around 28 euros) – For the standby/crew members among us, you can also use the return ticket for another day, in case your plans change within 14 days. Turkey Travel Diary | 4 day special solo trip to Istanbul
This travel diary is a very special and personal one, the title says Solo, but I was not alone. I was very curious about my partial ‘roots’ and lovely family members that I never or haven’t seen in the last 20 years. I went to see them on my own in Istanbul. After the sudden death of my grandfather in early 2019, which I was actually going to see in real life for the first time this year (we had facetime contact every now and then, telephone contact and he spoke Dutch), I decided to fly to Istanbul during my vacation, less than half a day after I came back from Valencia, from Eindhoven airport. Japan travel diary | Solo trip to Tokyo part 4
During my last days in Japan I did not take many pictures. I had done almost everything I wanted to do. The 7th day of my Tokyo trip, my new Swedish and French travel friends suggested to join them to go running around 6 in the morning. I was quite tired, so I refused and went to Tokyo tower later, because I wanted to see it up close. It was nice and sunny, so I walked through Tokyo with a happy and satisfied feeling. [Lees meer…]
Japan travel diary | 2018 Solo trip to Tokyo part 3
If you haven’t checked out day 3 and 4 yet, you can click this link: Part 2. Day 5 I really wanted to see the view of Tokyo. Once I sat down at the coffee bar of my hostel at the beginning of the afternoon, I got to know a new solo traveler named Hana (which I eventually hung out with a lot during this trip, and joined me to Shinjuku. Japan travel diary | 2018 Solo trip to Tokyo part 2
For those who have not yet read the first travel diary of my solo trip, click on this link: Part 1 – The 2nd morning that I woke up in Tokyo I would meet up with a friend of mine (Arisa), which I, like Anna, know for at least 5 years already. Both today and tomorrow, I would not be alone during this officially solo trip. I decided to wear my sparkle pants which I bought for this trip! We walked from Shibuya to Harajuku because we planned to explore that part this day. Arisa would take me to some cool parts in Tokyo. [Lees meer…]
Japan travel diary | 2018 Solo trip to Tokyo part 1
I really enjoy writing about my travel experiences and sharing photos with you. Perhaps this will inspire you to make that solo (dream) trip anyway. I would like to show you my travel diary to create an image about how I have experienced this solo trip. The very moment that I type this 1st piece, I’m on my way to Tokyo on my first intercontinental flight. After 7 years, the moment is there that I fly to this destination, something that has been a dream for years but now comes true – 9 days to Tokyo, solo. [Lees meer…]
Spain Travel diary | Solo trip to Palma de Mallorca
I had 5 days off at work as a flight attendant and once again I wanted to take the opportunity to travel.
One of my friends was working abroad again for a couple of months so I decided to plan a mini trip on my own to visit her at Palma de Mallorca – so technically this is, just like my trip to Lanzarote to that same friend, not a completely solo trip. [Lees meer…]
Portugal Travel diary | Solo travel to Porto part 2
This is the second part of my travel report to Porto. If you have not read the first part yet, you can click on the link here. After the nice lunch we went for a walk through many nice streets of Porto and took a lot of pictures of all the beautiful things that Porto had to offer and that we encountered at that moment. We got to know each other quite well during this trip. [Lees meer…]
Portugal Travel Diary | Solo travel to Lisbon Part 2
The second day in Lisbon started with a breakfast in my hostel with a lovely view of the city. Today, I would probably get new roommates. For this day, I booked a nice cycling tour with a Dutch guy that lives in Lisbon for years. An hour or two after getting up, I went to the destination by foot. After half an hour of walking many meters of unknown streets and high stairs, I arrived at the place where it would start. Together with two others, the cycling tour could begin. [Lees meer…]
