Mexico travel diary | 5th (Partial) Solo trip to Tulum & Playa del Carmen – part 2

11/06/2024 | Reageer

Tulum is a place where I hear mixed stories from travelers. Many find it overrated and expensive, but for me, it’s my favorite spot in the world. My days in Tulum are usually very relaxed. I often start with a leisurely breakfast or brunch, then head to a cenote or beach, and in the evening, I might have drinks with friends or attend a cool party hosted by one of my DJ friends. I’m fortunate to know many people, have friends in various organizations, and enjoy great collaborations in Tulum – which definitely shapes my experience differently. If I hadn’t stayed at Mayan Monkey in 2022 – in my opinion, the best hostel (next to Meteora) I’ve ever stayed at in Mexico – my life would be completely different right now. [Lees meer…]

Mexico travel diary | 5th (Partial) Solo trip to Tulum & Playa del Carmen – part 1

09/06/2024 | Reageer

At the end of April, I traveled to Mexico for the fifth time in two years. Yes, you read that right—five times! Mexico has become my ultimate destination, the place I constantly want to return to. The combination of fantastic hospitality, the internationally beloved cuisine (also my favorite!), stunning oceans, lively parties, expats, solo travelers, and the many friends I’ve made here, makes this country incredibly special to me. In Mexico, you can find everything: from the most delicious tacos and margaritas to breathtaking views and a vibrant atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else. Each trip to Mexico is different and brings new adventures and collaborations. That’s why I keep a diary of every trip to share all these experiences and new tips with you. [Lees meer…]

Jordan travel diary | 6 day Amman, Petra, Wadi-rum & Akaba trip

03/06/2024 | Reageer

Hi everyone! Hope you’re all well. This travel diary is about a special trip to Jordan, featuring Petra, one of the 7 world wonders, high on my list. Each year, I tick one off: in 2022 it was Chichen Itza in Mexico, in 2023 Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, and this year Petra in Jordan. I’ll take you on my Jordan adventure with my friend Demi. [Lees meer…]

With the sun kissing my face and the sand embracing my toes, I ventured to the enchanting coastlines of Tulum for an unforgettable outfit shoot. Teaming up with a photographer I know from this magical region, we captured the essence of the ancient goddess style that is so characteristic of this place. The amazing location I was collaborating with for my stay, is called Acacia Tulum. This Airbnb is so absolutely stunning, that I loved using it for pictures.

In the bustling streets of Tulum, where the atmosphere is infused with an eclectic mix of styles, I crafted my own unique look. While not necessarily a fan of the typical hippie style, I am drawn to the elegant boho aesthetic, with a hint of Greek goddess mixed in. It feels like the perfect place to experiment with my personal style, so I delved into my suitcase and donned an outfit I affectionately named ‘Aphrodite.’

Red isn’t just a color for me; it’s an expression of my inner strength and confidence. Whether it’s my nails flaunting a deep crimson hue, my clothing adding a touch of passion to my ensemble, or my lips cloaked in seductive red lipstick, there’s always a hint of red in my look. It’s not just my favorite color; it’s my secret weapon that gives me a boost of confidence wherever I go. [Lees meer…]

Despite the presence of seaweed, Tulum remains an enchanting destination to explore. Although seaweed sometimes washes along the coastline, this does not detract from the natural beauty of the beaches and crystal clear waters. Even with this natural challenge, Tulum remains a paradise worth exploring. Soon I will tell you more about my recent 5th trip to Mexico. [Lees meer…]

In Tulum, amidst the sun-drenched beaches and lush jungles, I love embracing the relaxed elegance of Tulum style with my favorite outfits. From airy maxi dresses to flowy silhouettes, each choice feels like an extension of the natural beauty surrounding me. Here, where every day feels like an endless summer dream, I find my ultimate style paradise. [Lees meer…]

POV: You spent your 20s in beauty competitions.

People see the gowns, the crowns, the photos and the stage.

What they don’t see are the early mornings, the self-doubt, the courage it takes to keep showing up, and the growth that happens long after the spotlight fades.

My twenties taught me that beauty competitions were never really about beauty.

They were about finding my voice.
About learning confidence.
About standing on a stage when I was terrified.
About representing causes I care about.
About inspiring others to embrace who they are.

I had the honor of competing in:

✨ Miss World
✨ Miss Universe
✨ Miss Grand International
✨ Miss Cosmo
✨ Miss International (selected to represent the Netherlands internationally, later cancelled due to COVID)

The titles were never the biggest reward.

The friendships, lessons, resilience, opportunities, and the woman I became along the way will always mean more than any crown ever could.

To the younger version of me who dreamed of standing on those stages: we did it. 💫

Gone (solo) travelling 😜

One day they’ll look for the version of you that was always there.

The version they took for granted.

And by then, you’ll be gone.

What’s the hardest lesson something taught you without meaning to?

One day I realized:

I wasn’t afraid of being and travelling alone.

I was afraid of losing my life while waiting for someone else.

So I booked the flight. ✈️

What’s something you’ve been waiting for?

Based on facts 🌴✈️ Can you relate?

"What do you like to do for fun?"

Leave the country.

New places, new people, new stories.
Every single time.

At what point does it stop being a hobby and become a personality trait? 😂

Guatemala, one of the most heartwarming places I’ve experienced so far. A destination that still crosses my mind almost daily. And now in my top 5 favorites.

After being lucky enough to solo travel to so many beautiful places around the world, Guatemala instantly became one of the places that touched me the most.

The people, the atmosphere, the volcanoes, Lake Atitlán, the coffee, the food, UNESCO Antigua… this country has a soul that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

I met beautiful humans I still speak to from time to time, and I’m grateful to now call some incredible Guatemalans my friends.

I travelled here with my new camera, and I’m so thankful I was able to capture parts of this beautiful country through my own eyes, while also collaborating with amazing companies along the way.

I remember my eyes being teary while being on a boat at Lake Atitlan, and the moment I saw the Volcano erupt during the hike - one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Some places impress you.
Others stay with you.
Guatemala did both. 🌋🇬🇹

Wait for the end! ✈️
Some women wait for love to start living.
I booked the ticket anyway.

Some of the most beautiful moments of my life happened because I stopped waiting, for permission, for certainty, for someone to come with me.

Solo travelling taught me that freedom can be lonely sometimes, but also deeply empowering. It gave me sunsets in countries I once only dreamed about, strangers that became memories, confidence I never learned at home, and versions of myself I would’ve never met if I stayed safe.

I may not have everything figured out yet, but I’ve lived. Deeply. Wildly. Internationally.
And honestly? That already makes me rich in life.

I know it’s not a possibility for every woman in the world to do this. Something travel also showed me over and over again.
