Hi everyone! This part of my travel diary is extra long, because it contains my entire extensive return journey, but also a lot of photos, because Ubud was the place where I planned most activities and wanted to take photos. What really appeals to me about Ubud, is also the fact that in my experience it is more the ‘authentic’ Bali, without beach and sea – but many rice fields, nature and waterfalls. After an incredibly long Grab ride of over 3 hours for just 38 kilometers – yes, Bali traffic is truly no joke – I finally arrived in Uluwatu late in the afternoon. I had booked Karma Backpackers hostel, one of the few options here. It immediately struck me that everything here is a bit more expensive than in Canggu: food, drinks, and even parties. Welcome back to Part 2! I knew it was rain season, but I didn’t expect how extremely rainy it would be this whole trip. Minor spoiler; the rest of the journey was nothing but incessant rain! A few weeks ago I went on a trip to Bangkok. I felt strongly that this was going to be an amazing trip. Originally, I would go on a 6-7 day trip with my best friend Roos, who lives in Abu Dhabi – but this felt too short for me. In 3 years time, I have seen Roos in real life for 4 hours – which was in Dubai last April by ‘sort of’ coincidence. From her departure station Abu Dhabi, it is about 6 hours flying time and from Amsterdam 12 hours straight. Because of the longer distance, I wanted to stay for more days than that anyway. Due to the 2 hour delay on my working flight, I would no longer be able to catch the KLM flight in the evening directly to BKK. I decided to fly to Dubai with Emirates. [Lees meer…]

I’ve been to Shibuya Sky, Tokyo Skytree and Shinjuku Metropolitan Government Building so far. This day I really wanted to go to Roppongi Hills, because I still wanted to visit this viewpoint. Hi everyone! In this post I am going to tell you about my third solo trip to Japan two months ago. Japan is one of the few countries that has really remained closed for a long time during corona, and also post-covid. October 2022, the borders were finally open for both unvaccinated and vaccinated travelers! Good news, because I was never vaccinated and wanted to go back to Tokyo. When I had more than 5-6 weeks off thanks to my part-time and vacation, I decided to travel to Tokyo as soon as possible after my 3-day modeling assignment in Germany. By coincidence, my flying colleagues Dennis and René went on exactly the same days and exactly the same flights – so we decided to hang out for a short while in Japan. Japan travel diary | 2019 Solo trip to Japan part 3

I cropped this last part of my 14 day trip into one post as I haven’t taken many photos in the last few days there. This is day 9 to 14. One of the last days I heard from a KLM flight attendant that my standby travel flight was as good as full, so I booked an extra night in my hostel in Tokyo and converted the KLM IPB flight to a new one day later. This day I went to Kyoto again from Osaka, this time with Yuka. Osaka and Kyoto are not long apart by public transport, I believe half an hour, so no other hostel was needed. Yuka and I have known each other since 2013 and have seen each other in the Netherlands and last year in Japan as well. [Lees meer…]
