Mexico travel diary (extra long) | One month back to Tulum part 2

Welcome to the next chapter of my month-long journey through Mexico and Guatemala. Chronologically, this is the continuation after Guatemala – Lake Atitlán.

Day 17 – Antigua, Guatemala-City, Cáncun &Tulum– 27-11-2025

I’m so grateful that my trip didn’t end in Guatemala, but instead brought me back to Tulum. After a short one-hour flight with Volaris (booked this time — no crew tickets), I took the bus from Cancún to Tulum.

There, I checked in for a few nights at Mayan Monkey — an old and familiar place for me, where I instantly feel at home (and where I’m actually already planning my next trip as we speak). Cyni and Leon picked me up right away and brought me to my new place, including my suitcase which they had kept safe for me until my return. So sweet.

I barely had time to settle in before it was already time for a quick touch-up and heading out again — I was picked up for a shoot at Ilios and Bak. It wasn’t a paid collaboration, but I received beautiful images in return, along with their exclusive food and drinks, which made the experience more than worth it.

It was such a fun and unique experience: I had to pretend I was a bride and even smash plates, haha. One of those moments that makes you think, how random, but how amazing. I loved getting to experience these restaurants in such a special way.

Wat ben ik dankbaar dat mijn reis niet eindigde in Guatemala, maar juist weer verderging in Tulum. Na een vlucht van slechts een uur met Volaris (gewoon geboekt, geen crew tickets dit keer) reisde ik vanaf Cancún met de bus door naar Tulum.

Daar checkte ik voor een paar nachtjes in bij Mayan Monkey – een oude, vertrouwde plek voor mij, waar ik me altijd meteen thuis voel (en waar ik as we speak zelfs al bezig ben met plannen voor mijn volgende trip). Cyni en Leon haalden me direct op en brachten me naar mijn nieuwe verblijf, inclusief mijn koffer die ze al die tijd voor me hadden bewaard. Zó lief.

Na aankomst had ik nauwelijks tijd om echt te landen: een snelle touch-up en toen werd ik alweer opgehaald voor een shoot bij Ilios en Bak. Geen betaalde samenwerking, maar wél prachtige beelden én genieten van hun exclusieve eten en drinken – wat natuurlijk ook alles waard is.

Het was een superleuke ervaring: ik moest doen alsof ik een bruid was en zelfs borden kapot gooien, haha. Echt zo’n typisch moment waarvan je later denkt: hoe random, maar wat gaaf. Ik vond het bijzonder om deze restaurants op zo’n unieke manier te mogen ervaren.

Day 18 – Tulum– 28-11-2025

This day felt like a little maintenance day: getting my nails and eyebrows done, working on my content, and chatting with lovely people at Mayan Monkey.

What made the day extra special was meeting a super sweet girl from Canada — Danielle. We had cacao together at Raw Love, which I can highly recommend. One of those simple moments that quietly become some of your favorites while traveling.

Deze dag voelde een beetje als een maintenance-dag: ik liet mijn nagels en wenkbrauwen doen, werkte aan mijn content en had leuke gesprekken met gezellige mensen bij Mayan Monkey.

Wat deze dag extra fijn maakte, was dat ik een super leuke meid uit Canada leerde kennen — Danielle. Samen dronken we cacao bij Raw Love, echt een dikke aanrader. Zo’n simpele momenten die een reis net dat beetje extra geven.

Day 19 – Tulum– 29-11-2025

Today, Cyni was completely free again to do fun things, so we decided to head straight to Playa Maya to soak up the sun, take some photos, and go for a swim.

To end the day, we had burgers at Burgerito, which has recently moved from La Veleta to Centro – the perfect, simple way to wrap up a beautiful day.

Cyni was vandaag weer helemaal vrij om leuke dingen te doen, dus besloten we meteen naar Playa Maya te gaan om te zonnen, foto’s te maken en te zwemmen.

Als afsluiting van de dag aten we een hamburger bij Burgerito, dat onlangs is verhuisd van La Veleta naar Centro – de perfecte, simpele manier om zo’n mooie dag af te sluiten.

Day 20 – Tulum– 30-11-2025

Today I checked into my own apartment on the edge of La Veleta, which I would be sharing with a Dutch friend who was coming to work remotely from Tulum. We planned to live together as roommates for about 7–8 nights, each doing our own thing alongside that.

Cyni and I decided to go back to the same beach one more time and have lunch there before Flora arrived. I met her later at Mi Latte Café in La Veleta, where I had an amazing açai bowl – definitely another recommendation. Afer also spending some time at Cyni’s apartment – which I do all the time, we had dinner in La Veleta.

That evening, we laughed so much because the fire alarm in the apartment kept going off. In the end, we literally removed it ourselves and placed it outside… problem solved, but what a scene 😂

Vandaag checkte ik in in mijn eigen appartement aan de rand van La Veleta, dat ik zou delen met een Nederlandse vriendin die hier remote zou komen werken. We zouden ongeveer 7 à 8 nachten samen als huisgenoten leven, ieder met ons eigen ritme en plannen.

Cyni en ik besloten eerst nog een laatste keer naar hetzelfde strand te gaan om daar te lunchen, voordat Flora zou aankomen. Ik ontmoette haar later bij Mi Latte Café in La Veleta, waar ik een súper lekkere açai bowl at – ook echt een aanrader. Later zijn Cyni en ik na wat tijd doorbrengen in haar apartement – wat we super vaak doen – uit eten geweest in Veleta.

Die avond hebben we zó veel gelachen, omdat het brandalarm in het appartement steeds afging. Uiteindelijk hebben we het ding handmatig losgemaakt en buiten gelegd… probleem opgelost, maar wat een chaos 😂

Day 21 – Tulum– 01-12-2025

Before heading out with Cyni again today, I decided to grab a coffee with Flora first. I really wanted to show her my favorite coffee chain in Tulum: Nimeno — which I’ve mentioned many times before.

I enjoyed another delicious cappuccino there, and we shared the overnight oats. Honestly… everything there is divine. Truly everything. I would come back just for that oatmeal alone.

Afterwards, I left Flora to work remotely and cycled one street further to Otti to have breakfast with Cyni.

The beach we went to afterwards was La Eufemia — a well-known and free beach spot among locals, and definitely a tip for you. Relaxed, easy-going, and no entrance fee, which sadly has become quite rare in Tulum these days.

Next to La Eufemia, and after many protests because so many beaches started charging extremely high entrance fees, a new public beach has also opened closer to the hotel zone. I haven’t been there myself yet, but it’s definitely something to consider when visiting Tulum.

A small tip: some of the best restaurants and food spots in La Veleta can be found around Calle 7. This neighborhood is genuinely one of my favorite areas in Tulum. Just keep in mind that Tulum isn’t a huge city, but everything is quite spread out. La Veleta, for example, is a place I only really started to explore after visiting Tulum a few times already.

In the evening, I took Flora to La Negra Tomasa – my favorite taco place. Where I do get recognised by now haha.

Voordat ik vandaag weer met Cyni op pad zou gaan, besloot ik eerst een koffietje te drinken met Flora. Ik wilde haar graag mijn favoriete koffieketen in Tulum laten zien: Nimeno – waar ik jullie al vaker over heb verteld.

Ik genoot er opnieuw van een heerlijke cappuccino en samen deelden we de overnight oats. Echt… alles, maar dan ook álles hier is goddelijk. Alleen voor deze havermout kom ik al met liefde terug.

Daarna liet ik Flora achter om remote te werken en fietste ik een straatje verder naar Otti, om daar weer met Cyni te ontbijten.

Het strand waar we daarna naartoe gingen was La Eufemia – een bekende en gratis strandplek onder locals, en zeker een tip voor jullie. Fijn, relaxed en zonder entreeprijs, wat tegenwoordig helaas steeds zeldzamer wordt in Tulum.

Naast La Eufemia is er, na veel demonstraties vanwege de extreem hoge entreeprijzen bij veel stranden, ook een nieuwe public beach geopend richting de hotel zone. Ik ben daar zelf nog niet geweest, maar het is zeker iets om in gedachten te houden als je Tulum bezoekt.

Kleine tip: de beste restaurants en eetplekjes in La Veleta vind je vooral rond Calle 7. Deze wijk is oprecht één van mijn favoriete plekken in Tulum. Houd er wel rekening mee dat Tulum geen enorme stad is, maar dat alles wél redelijk verspreid ligt. La Veleta is bijvoorbeeld een buurt die ik pas echt ben gaan ontdekken nadat ik al een paar keer in Tulum was geweest.

In de avond nam ik Flora mee naar mijn lievelings taco plek – La Negra Tomasa, waar ik inmiddels wel herkent wordt haha.

Day 22 – Tulum– 02-12-2025

Once again, I had breakfast at Harttoo, where Yocelyn works, just to see her again. And of course, I went back for the divine chocolate pancakes and great coffee – truly heavenly. It was really nice to catch up with her.

I invited her to join a collaboration I had arranged. I knew that one of her favorite spots in Tulum is the new café Nimai, only five minutes from my apartment in La Veleta. So I organized for her to come along for the collab, where she could order anything she liked in exchange for the content I would create. She was so excited when I told her.

The rest of the day was calm and easy. I spent some time by the pool at my apartment, met two really lovely Australians who were staying in the complex for the same amount of time as us, and later stopped by a newly discovered spot in La Veleta called Vereda with Flora before she went back to work. It’s a tiny, still fairly unknown place, but amazing for photos. I loved discovering it.

In the evening, I took the Australian couple to Palma Central, one of the most popular spots in Tulum among locals. It’s filled with food trucks from all kinds of cuisines, salsa classes, and beautiful handmade products. I bought a necklace in a Mexican porcelain style there. Small tip: bargaining is often possible, and sometimes prices even differ per person 😉

Such a cozy, fun day.

Opnieuw ontbeet ik bij Harttoo, waar Yocelyn werkt, om haar weer even te zien. Natuurlijk kwam ik ook dit keer voor de goddelijke chocoladepannenkoeken en goede koffie – wát een hemels gerecht. Het was echt leuk om haar weer te spreken.

Ik nodigde haar uit voor een samenwerking die ik had geregeld. Ik wist dat één van haar lievelingsplekjes in Tulum het nieuwe café Nimai is, op nog geen vijf minuten van mijn appartement in La Veleta. Dus regelde ik dat ik haar mee kon nemen voor een collab, waarbij ze alles mocht kiezen wat ze lekker vond in ruil voor content die ik zou maken. Ze vond dat zó leuk om te horen.

Vandaag was verder een rustige dag. Ik hing wat bij het zwembad van mijn appartement, raakte aan de praat met twee superleuke Australiërs die net zo lang in het complex verbleven als wij, en ging met Flora langs bij een nieuw ontdekt plekje in La Veleta: Vereda. Een heel klein, nog vrij onbekend tentje, maar zó leuk voor foto’s. Blij dat ik dit plekje heb ontdekt.

’s Avonds nam ik het Australische stel mee naar Palma Central, één van de bekendste plekken onder locals in Tulum. Je vindt er allerlei foodtrucks met verschillende keukens, salsa-lessen en leuke handgemaakte producten. Ik kocht er een ketting in Mexicaanse porseleinstijl. Kleine tip: afdingen kan hier vaak, en soms verschilt de prijs zelfs per persoon 😉.

Wat een gezellige dag.

Day 23 – Tulum– 03-12-2025

I had another lovely day planned. Together with Daniela, Marcelo and Jana, I went to relax at Gitano Beach – my favorite beach club and also the place where Jana works.

Before that, I enjoyed a cacao by myself at Xok in Centro, which is actually amazing for your heart and body. Marcelo and Daniela picked me up there, and we continued on to Gitano together.

It was so nice spending time there, relaxing in the sun, before heading out for dinner later with a bigger group.

On Wednesdays, Tomizen Ramen has a 2-for-1 deal, so we each paid only 150 pesos (about €7.50). And honestly… the ramen was divine.

It was such a fun evening with Ricardo, Jana, Jenny, Cathi, Kevin, Marcelo and Daniela – and especially nice that I mostly spoke German and could really practice.

Part of the group was kind enough to drive me home as well, since I was on my bike and it’s not always very safe in the dark around La Veleta and Region 15.

Ik had weer een leuke dag op de planning staan. Samen met Daniela, Marcelo en Jana ging ik zonnen bij Gitano Beach – mijn favoriete beachclub én de plek waar Jana werkt.

Daarvoor genoot ik in mijn eentje nog van een cacao bij Xok in Centro – wat trouwens supergoed is voor je hart en lichaam. Marcelo en Daniela haalden me daar op en samen reden we door naar Gitano.

Het was heerlijk om daar tijd door te brengen, ontspannen in de zon, voordat we later met een hele groep uit eten zouden gaan.

Op woensdag heb je bij Tomizen Ramen een 2-voor-1 deal, dus betaalden we uiteindelijk maar 150 pesos per persoon (ongeveer €7,50). En wát een goddelijke ramen.

Het was super gezellig met Ricardo, Jana, Jenny, Cathi, Kevin, Marcelo en Daniela – en extra leuk dat ik vooral Duits sprak en veel kon oefenen.

Een deel van de groep was ook zo lief om me nog naar huis te brengen, omdat ik met de fiets was en het in het donker niet altijd even veilig is rond La Veleta en Region 15.

Day 24 – Tulum– 04-12-2025

My morning started at Nimai, where I took sweet Yocelyn. Nimai is a cute new coffee spot in La Veleta that I can truly recommend. The area is calm and peaceful, the coffee is great, the prices are good and the food is delicious too. I had an açai bowl, and the pistachio croissant is absolutely divine – a must try.

I didn’t take many photos that day. I went to the beach with Cyni and Tanya — her mother, who had just returned to Mexico. We went back to La Eufemia and had lunch there as well.

Later, we did some grocery shopping together at the new La Comer. A calm, simple, but really lovely day.

Mijn ochtend begon bij Nimai, waar ik de lieve Yocelyn mee naartoe nam. Nimai is een schattig nieuw koffieplekje in La Veleta dat ik jullie echt kan aanraden. De omgeving is heerlijk rustig, de koffie is goed, de prijzen prima en de gerechten zijn ook top. Ik koos voor een lekkere açai bowl, en oh – de pistachecroissant is echt goddelijk. Die móét je proberen.

Verder heb ik deze dag niet heel veel foto’s gemaakt. Ik ging met Cyni en Tanya – haar moeder, die net weer terug was in Mexico – naar het strand. We zijn opnieuw naar La Eufemia gegaan en hebben daar ook gegeten.

Later op de dag deden we samen nog boodschappen bij de nieuwe La Comer. Een rustige, simpele maar fijne dag.

Day 25 – Tulum– 05-12-2025

Flora wanted to treat me to breakfast, so I suggested going to Del Cielo. It’s a super cute spot in the center of Tulum, close to my former favorite hostel Meteora – which unfortunately no longer exists.

By coincidence, we spotted Kevin and Cathi outside, and they decided to join us. So fun!

I wanted to show Flora some of my favorite places in Tulum, so we also went to Mia Beach Club. This used to be my favorite beach club and party spot before everything changed, and it’s even a place where I once stayed overnight with my ex. Sadly, it’s not the same as it was in 2022 anymore, but I still hold very dear memories of it.

After that, we had a coffee at Sunlove by the beach. To end the day, I took Flora to Burrito Street in Centro – a place I already loved in 2022 and revisited after a few years. Big recommendation here: the watermelon juice – one liter of pure goodness.

In the evening, we went to Jana and Ricardo at Gitano Jungle Room in the hotel zone – an amazing restaurant that turns into a club at night. Since Ricardo had to play there, we ended up going out with the six of us until late.

Important tip: really try to avoid taxis in Tulum. They are known for charging extreme prices and operate almost like a cartel. Not to scare anyone, but as a local I truly dislike these practices. Instead, download Eibi Taxi or InDrive – these are the only transport apps I use, and they offer fair prices.

Flora wilde me trakteren op ontbijt, dus stelde ik voor om naar Del Cielo te gaan. Een super leuk tentje in het centrum van Tulum, vlak bij mijn voormalige lievelingshostel Meteora – dat helaas helemaal verdwenen is.

Per toeval spotte ik ook Kevin en Cathi buiten, die zich spontaan bij ons aansloten. Hoe gezellig!

Ik wilde Flora graag wat leuke plekjes van Tulum laten zien, dus gingen we ook naar Mia Beach Club. Dit was vroeger – vóór alles veranderde – mijn favoriete beachclub en feestplek, en een plek waar ik zelfs met mijn ex heb overnacht. Jammer genoeg is het nu niet meer zoals in 2022, maar ik bewaar er wel hele dierbare herinneringen aan.

Daarna dronken we nog een koffietje bij Sunlove aan het strand. Als afsluiting nam ik Flora mee naar Burrito Street in Centro, een plek die ik in 2022 al geweldig vond en nu na een paar jaar weer eens bezocht. Dikke tip hier: de watermelon juice – een liter pure heerlijkheid.

In de avond gingen we naar Jana en Ricardo bij Gitano Jungle Room in de hotel zone – een fantastisch restaurant dat ’s avonds verandert in een club. Omdat Ricardo daar moest draaien, zijn we met z’n zessen tot diep in de nacht uitgegaan.

Belangrijke tip: probeer taxi’s in Tulum echt te vermijden. Ze staan bekend om hun extreem hoge prijzen en werken vrijwel als een kartel. Niet om iemand af te schrikken, maar als local kan ik hier echt slecht tegen. Download liever Eibi Taxi of InDrive – dit zijn de enige vervoersapps die ik gebruik, met eerlijke prijzen.

Day 26 – Tulum– 06-12-2025

Flora and I decided to go our separate ways from this morning on, and when I woke up, she had already left. I had booked one extra night in the apartment and was also able to extend my trip by a total of three nights.

Hunab-Ku had become available again, which meant I could stay two more nights in this dream apartment and create professional content once more as part of a collaboration. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be back in this heavenly villa.

I had such a fun day planned and was really looking forward to spending it with Cyni. I started the morning on my own with breakfast at La Ponderosa, a sister restaurant of Burgerito in La Veleta. The staff is lovely and I really like the interior as well.

After that, Cyni picked me up and we rode the scooter to Tulumania at the beach, where Leon and Boris were performing. At Kanan, Boudoin also took photos of me for Boris’ company.

It was so nice spending time there with Cyni, Leon, and Boris – tanning, relaxing, and enjoying my favorite cocktail: carajillos, the Mexican version of an espresso martini.

In the evening, Boris, Cyni, Leon, and I went to Obsediana, where Leon had another performance. We were treated to dinner by the house, which was the perfect ending to a beautiful day.

Flora en ik besloten vanaf deze ochtend ieder onze eigen weg te gaan. Toen ik wakker werd, was ze al vertrokken. Zelf had ik nog een extra nacht in het appartement bijgeboekt én kon ik mijn reis met in totaal drie nachten verlengen.

Hunab-Ku bleek namelijk weer beschikbaar, waardoor ik nog twee extra nachten in dit droomappartement kon verblijven en opnieuw professionele content kon maken in samenwerking. Zó dankbaar voor deze kans om weer in deze hemelse villa te mogen zijn.

Vandaag stond er een superleuke dag op de planning waar ik enorm naar uitkeek, samen met Cyni. Ik begon de ochtend alleen met een ontbijtje bij La Ponderosa, een zusterzaak van Burgerito in La Veleta. Het personeel is er superlief en het interieur vind ik ook echt heel leuk.

Daarna haalde Cyni me op en zijn we met de scooter naar Tulumania aan het strand gegaan, waar Leon en Boris moesten optreden. Bij Kanan heeft Boudoin nog foto’s van mij gemaakt voor het bedrijf van Boris.

Het was zó fijn om hier samen met Cyni, Leon en Boris te zijn: zonnen, relaxen en genieten van mijn favoriete cocktail — carajillo’s, de Mexicaanse variant van een espresso martini.

’s Avonds gingen Boris, Cyni, Leon en ik naar Obsediana, waar Leon ook een optreden had. We kregen daar eten van het huis, een heerlijke afsluiting van een prachtige dag.

Day 27 – Tulum– 07-12-2025

This day was calm and simple. I checked out of my apartment and headed to Hunab-Ku in Aldea Zama, where I could check into the villa again.

I spent most of the day on my own, enjoying the quiet, and I also visited Holistika to walk the art walk once more, where you can admire many beautiful paintings and artworks by local artists – and had lunch at Mera.

What really stayed with me was the super kind InDrive driver I met along the way — we spoke Spanish together, and moments like that make traveling feel extra special to me.

Being back in the villa instantly felt like coming home. Everything just felt right: the atmosphere, the space, the peace.

In the evening, I randomly ran into Jenny, Kevin, and Cathi at La Guardia in Centro and joined them for a drink. A quiet day, filled with just enough beautiful little moments.

Deze dag was rustig en simpel. Ik vertrok uit mijn appartement en reisde door naar Hunab-Ku in Aldea Zama, waar ik opnieuw mocht inchecken in de villa.

Ik bracht het grootste deel van de dag alleen door en genoot van de rust – en heb nog bij Holistica opnieuw de art walk gedaan, waar je veel mooie schilderwerken van mensen kan aanschouwen – en at lunch bij Mera in Veleta. Wat me vooral bijbleef, was de superlieve InDrive-chauffeur met wie ik Spaans sprak onderweg – zulke kleine momenten maken reizen voor mij extra bijzonder.

Terug in de villa voelde het meteen weer als thuiskomen. Alles klopte: de sfeer, de rust, de ruimte.

’s Avonds kwam ik toevallig Jenny, Kevin en Cathi tegen bij La Guardia in Centro en sloot ik nog even aan voor een drankje. Een rustige dag, met precies genoeg mooie kleine momenten.

Day 28 – Tulum– 08-12-2025

Today was my last full day in Tulum, and Cyni decided to spend it with me.

Due to some bad luck, the power had gone out at Cyni and Leon’s place. And what are the odds that I happened to be staying in a villa with multiple rooms at that moment? Secretly, I loved that they could stay over with me for the night — it felt special to be able to offer that on my last evening in Tulum.

That morning, Cyni helped me once again with creating content in the villa using my camera after I had breakfast again at Nimeno in Veleta on my own. Later, together with Tanya, we went to the beach for the day, before I would soon be heading back to the winter weather in the Netherlands.

We also spent a lot of time at the villa itself, really making the most of it – swimming, relaxing, and I even helped Cyni with some job interview training.

I have to admit, I did cry a little – partly out of gratitude, and partly because I had to leave behind people I care so deeply about. But with the comforting thought that I would return.

In the evening, the four of us had pizza together in the villa and enjoyed a cozy little sleepover. Tanya slept at her own apartment.

Vandaag was mijn laatste volle dag in Tulum, en Cyni besloot die samen met mij door te brengen.

Door enorme pech was bij Cyni en Leon de stroom uitgevallen. En hoe groot is de kans dat ik op dat moment in een villa met meerdere kamers verblijf? Stiekem vond ik het dus supergezellig dat ze een nachtje bij mij kwamen slapen — fijn dat ik dit tijdens mijn laatste avond in Tulum voor hen kon doen.

Die ochtend hielp Cyni me opnieuw met het maken van content in de villa, met mijn camera – na ik in mijn eentje had ontbeten bij Nimeno Zama. Later gingen we samen met Tanya een dagje naar het strand, voordat ik weer terug zou vliegen naar het winterse Nederland.

We brachten ook veel tijd door in de villa zelf, om er echt nog maximaal van te genieten: zwemmen, ontspannen, en ik hielp Cyni nog met sollicitatietraining.

Ik moet eerlijk zeggen dat ik ook even heb gehuild – deels uit dankbaarheid, deels omdat ik de mensen van wie ik zoveel houd weer moest achterlaten. Maar wel met de geruststelling dat ik terug zou komen.

’s Avonds aten we met z’n vieren pizza in de villa en hielden we een gezellige kleine sleepover. Tanya sliep in haar eigen appartement.

Day 29 & 30 – Tulum, Cancun & Amsterdam – 09-12-2025 / 10-12-2025

I look back on this beautiful month-long adventure with so much gratitude. I can’t believe how quickly time passed, and how long I was able to spend once again in my favorite place in the world.

Well rested in the villa, I made coffee for Cyni and Leon as they woke up, and packed my bags. I’m still grateful that, by coincidence, they stayed over with me for one night — even though they literally live less than two minutes away. We had one last breakfast together at Nimeno and spent our final hours side by side.

I then took the ADO bus back to Cancún and was incredibly lucky to get a seat on an overbooked flight through the crew. That’s always the nerve-wracking part of flying IPB — so much can change last minute. I feel truly grateful that this option exists.

The flight back to the Netherlands took only eight hours with KLM — the shortest Cancún–Amsterdam flight I’ve ever had. With a heart full of beautiful memories, it was time to return to my hometown Den Bosch, where the holidays and my family were waiting for me. I was really looking forward to that too: the Christmas markets and Serious Request. Trading one favorite place for another.

I count my blessings and feel deeply grateful for everything this magical place has given me: love, friendships, abundance, and opportunities.

Met ontzettend veel dankbaarheid kijk ik terug op dit prachtige, maandlange avontuur. Ik kan niet geloven hoe snel de tijd is gegaan en hoe lang ik opnieuw heb mogen doorbrengen op mijn lievelingsplek in de wereld.

Heerlijk uitgerust in de villa maakte ik koffie voor Cyni en Leon, die net wakker werden, en pakte ik mijn spullen in. Ik ben nog steeds dankbaar dat – geluk bij een ongeluk – Cyni en Leon een nachtje bij mij verbleven, ondanks dat ze letterlijk nog geen twee minuten verderop wonen, haha. We aten nog één laatste keer met z’n vieren bij Nimeno en brachten onze laatste uurtjes samen door.

Daarna nam ik de ADO-bus terug naar Cancún en had ik enorm veel geluk: via de crew kreeg ik alsnog een stoel op een overboekte vlucht. Dat blijft toch altijd het spannende aan IPB’en – er kan op het laatste moment nog zó veel veranderen. Ik voel me ontzettend dankbaar dat ik deze mogelijkheid heb.

De vlucht naar Nederland duurde maar acht uur met KLM – de kortste Cancún–Amsterdam vlucht die ik ooit heb meegemaakt. Met een hart vol mooie herinneringen en dankbaarheid was het tijd om terug te keren naar mijn prachtige stad Den Bosch, waar de feestdagen en mijn lieve familie op mij wachtten. Daar keek ik ook echt naar uit: de stad met de mooiste kerstmarkt en Serious Request. Zo ruilde ik mijn ene lievelingsplek in voor de volgende.

Ik tel mijn zegeningen en ben diep dankbaar voor alles wat deze bijzondere plek mij heeft gebracht: liefde, vriendschappen, overvloed en kansen.
