Spain Travel Diary | 3 day getaway to Malaga

11/03/2020 | Reageer

Last week I went to Malaga with my good friend and colleague Michelle. This city trip was a last minute decision, so that made it even more fun. We decided to relax for 3 days in a much warmer city to catch up, because we hadn’t seen each other for a few months. On March 4 we flew to Malaga with a very nice crew from our home base Eindhoven Airport, Standby. I had a three-day weekend, so as I had done before, a city trip suited perfectly. We arrived in the evening so we changed our outfit in our AirBnb apartment and then went out for dinner. By the way, our Airbnb was called Malaga City Breaks. What quickly struck me was the enormous hospitality of this city.

The place where we went to eat was called Cerveceria Los Gatos, just a few minutes by foot from our Airbnb. The restaurant had a great atmosphere ! There we drank the famous Malaga wine (delicious, recommended), had a nice conversation with Spaniards at the table next to us and ate steak. The table filled with free gin and tonics afterwards and inside we got a free dessert and champagne from the staff. It was very kind! At the end of this evening we had a coffee at Chester – a cool cocktail bar.

The second day in Malaga, we went for brunch at Brunch Corner, which was really around the corner from our Airbnb. Nice place with super sweet staff! We also received many nice recommendations there.

We walked through many beautiful streets towards the coast, and rented a bicycle from QQ bikes for about 10 euros pp. Cycling along the coast we enjoyed the warm sun. Finally we went back to the more central Malaga for lunch. Unfortunately I forgot the name of the nice terrace where we had lunch in the afternoon! Friendly staff, by the way. We received a free glass of pink champagne. After returning our bikes, we got changed and dined at a tapas restaurant called Vineria Cervantes. With a glass of red wine we enjoyed several delicious tapas dishes. We asked the staff to choose us so we had stuffed peppers, breaded shrimp, red potato beef and duck as the last dish. I really recommend this place! It was super cozy, had nice staff and the food was delicious and great in price. For dessert they made a kind of apple pie dough with ice cream combi especially for us. Once at home we watched a movie and went to sleep.

The last day our flight was supposed to leave at 8am so we had a whole day to spend. We went for breakfast at Julia’s bakery near our Airbnb, recommended by our taxi driver. I had an Egg Benedict with a soy cappuccino and shared a slice of delicious red velvet cake. We went for a walk and visited Alcazaba, an old castle, for a view of the city, where we walked around and relaxed. Finally we had an early lunch at the place where we also ate yesterday, and then we went for a walk, because we wanted to get to the airport quite early.
Thank you for reading my travel diary!

Gone (solo) travelling 😜

One day they’ll look for the version of you that was always there.

The version they took for granted.

And by then, you’ll be gone.

What’s the hardest lesson something taught you without meaning to?

Beautiful villa @villa_hunab_ku 🌴

One day I realized:

I wasn’t afraid of being and travelling alone.

I was afraid of losing my life while waiting for someone else.

So I booked the flight. ✈️

What’s something you’ve been waiting for?

Based on facts 🌴✈️ Can you relate?

"What do you like to do for fun?"

Leave the country.

New places, new people, new stories.
Every single time.

At what point does it stop being a hobby and become a personality trait? 😂

Guatemala, one of the most heartwarming places I’ve experienced so far. A destination that still crosses my mind almost daily. And now in my top 5 favorites.

After being lucky enough to solo travel to so many beautiful places around the world, Guatemala instantly became one of the places that touched me the most.

The people, the atmosphere, the volcanoes, Lake Atitlán, the coffee, the food, UNESCO Antigua… this country has a soul that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

I met beautiful humans I still speak to from time to time, and I’m grateful to now call some incredible Guatemalans my friends.

I travelled here with my new camera, and I’m so thankful I was able to capture parts of this beautiful country through my own eyes, while also collaborating with amazing companies along the way.

I remember my eyes being teary while being on a boat at Lake Atitlan, and the moment I saw the Volcano erupt during the hike - one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Some places impress you.
Others stay with you.
Guatemala did both. 🌋🇬🇹

Wait for the end! ✈️
Some women wait for love to start living.
I booked the ticket anyway.

Some of the most beautiful moments of my life happened because I stopped waiting, for permission, for certainty, for someone to come with me.

Solo travelling taught me that freedom can be lonely sometimes, but also deeply empowering. It gave me sunsets in countries I once only dreamed about, strangers that became memories, confidence I never learned at home, and versions of myself I would’ve never met if I stayed safe.

I may not have everything figured out yet, but I’ve lived. Deeply. Wildly. Internationally.
And honestly? That already makes me rich in life.

I know it’s not a possibility for every woman in the world to do this. Something travel also showed me over and over again.
