Spain Travel Diary | 6 day Marbella friend visit

08/06/2026 | Reageer

A few weeks ago, I was invited by my friend Joelle, who lives in Marbella. Joelle and I have known each other for eight years now, but we hadn’t seen each other since 2023 – so it was high time to catch up. Originally, the plan was to go to Peru and then Paris, but when the plans for Paris started to waver, Joelle spontaneously suggested coming over for some quality girl time in Marbella. Because I can often fly cheaply thanks to my airline benefits (provided there is space available) and Paris eventually fell through, I decided to just go for it and fly to Spain.

After an intense period and the cancellation of a trip I was really looking forward to, this weekend felt like exactly what I needed: to relax, enjoy the moment, and live a little more loosely than usual. As if that wasn’t fun enough, one of my favorite colleagues happened to be flying with me on the outbound journey, allowing us to carpool to the airport together. How convenient is that?

Day 1 – Eindhoven, Malaga & Marbella – 16-04-2026

After a smooth journey from Eindhoven with my colleagues, and thanks to a ride from one of them, I arrived in Málaga. One of the things I love about Europe is how easily you can reach a completely different destination within just a few hours.

Joelle had already arranged a bus ticket for me, and after a short 40-minute ride to Marbella bus station, I took a taxi to her apartment. It was so nice to finally see her again in person after a few years!

Back at her apartment, she prepared some snacks for us before her friend Simone picked us up to head to La Plaza in Puente Romano. The three of us enjoyed a cocktail together, and later Joelle’s boyfriend Carlos joined us as well.

Joelle and I were quite tired, so we decided not to stay out too late. Just as we had settled into bed, Simone called us. Due to an unexpected situation, we had to go and pick up her car, after which she ended up staying the night with us. Looking back, it turned into a really funny and memorable night for the three of us.

Net toen we in bed lagen, belde Simone ons.

Day 2 – Marbella – 17-04-2026

Joelle had to work that day, so her intern Nadine took me out to create content for the company Joelle works for. We started the day with coffee at Frou Frou, wandered through Puerto Banús along the marina and luxury boutiques, and later enjoyed lunch at a beautiful sushi restaurant.

We ended the afternoon at Forum, a new and super fun spot. There, we treated ourselves to a pastry from a Swedish bakery and grabbed a great coffee from Koffi Club.

That evening, we headed back to La Plaza, where we met up with Joelle, Carlos, and some of their friends. Afterwards, we continued the night at Coya Club and Momento, both of which were so much fun.

Day 3 – Marbella – 18-04-2026

On Saturday, we were invited to Nao Beach Club by Joelle’s friend Monica. Together with Simone and Nina from Germany, who joined us for the day, we spent the afternoon enjoying the beach club. I was absolutely loving this spontaneous weekend with Joelle, and everyone we met was genuinely so much fun. The atmosphere was amazing, and it was great spending the afternoon with the girls. Funny enough, the place even gave me a few Tulum vibes!

At the beach club, we also met a group of Italian guys who would later join us for drinks at La Plaza and a night out afterwards.

One of the things I loved most about this trip was that I could decide day by day how long I wanted to stay. That’s one of the biggest advantages of flying on crew tickets.

After returning from the beach club, we took our time getting ready for the evening. Joelle and I started with drinks at Nobu together with some of her friends before joining the Italians. After enjoying an Espresso Martini at La Plaza, we made our way through several clubs. Thanks to Joelle, I was able to get into pretty much everywhere that weekend. We visited Motel, Momento, and eventually ended up at Fitz.

Joelle and I laughed so much that night. It was another unforgettable evening and the perfect way to continue an already amazing weekend.

Day 4 – Marbella – 19-04-2026

This weekend has been absolutely incredible, and I’ve been enjoying every single day of it!

That morning, Joelle took me to a lovely bakery called Maleva Bakery. I absolutely love places like that – beautiful, cozy, and full of character. Later, we headed to Marbella’s Old Town, where we enjoyed a drink in the sunshine at a beautiful hotel before picking up some groceries for an early barbecue at Simone’s place with a group of her friends.

The afternoon was filled with great conversations, delicious food, refreshing drinks, sunshine, and stunning views. Honestly, what an amazing trip this has been.

We ended this fantastic day with drinks alongside our Italian friends, and once again it turned into a really fun evening.

This has been one of my favorite trips in a long time, mainly because of how spontaneous and unexpected everything has been. Sometimes the best memories are the ones you never planned for.

Day 5 – Marbella – 20-04-2026

Since Joelle had to work that day, I decided to join three people from the Italian group we had met earlier for lunch. We went to Beach Club Trocadero, which is located not far from Joelle’s house. They kindly treated me to lunch, which was such a sweet gesture. The ceviche was delicious, and the sea bass was equally impressive.

I spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing with them on a beach bed by the sea until Joelle finished work and the group had to leave to catch their flights to various destinations around the world.

That evening, Joelle and I took a stroll through Marbella’s Old Town, which I would highly recommend visiting. It offers such a beautiful contrast to the luxury and glamour of Puerto Banús, with its charming narrow streets, picturesque squares, and authentic Spanish atmosphere.

Afterwards, we called it an early night after some tapas and headed to bed, enjoying a quiet evening after several days filled with fun, spontaneity, and great company.

Day 6 – Marbella – 21-04-2026

By the end of the morning, it was time to fly back to Eindhoven with my colleagues. I was lucky enough to enjoy the take-off from the cockpit on this flight, which was a pretty amazing and relaxed way to end the trip.

The bus ride to the airport once again took only forty minutes, and I still had plenty of time to grab one last coffee before boarding. Sitting there, I found myself reflecting on what had been such a wonderful trip. One that I started with no real expectations, yet ended up enjoying so much.

Funny enough, Marbella was never really a destination that had been on my travel bucket list. But ever since Joelle moved here, I’ve completely fallen in love with the area. Four trips later, I’m still discovering new places and finding new reasons to come back.

Sometimes, the destinations you expect the least from end up surprising you the most. For me, this was one of those trips: filled with spontaneous plans, new friendships, lots of laughter, and memories I’ll look back on for a long time. And in the end, those are always the best kinds of trips.

Thank you for reading my diary, and onto the next one!

Gone (solo) travelling 😜

One day they’ll look for the version of you that was always there.

The version they took for granted.

And by then, you’ll be gone.

What’s the hardest lesson something taught you without meaning to?

One day I realized:

I wasn’t afraid of being and travelling alone.

I was afraid of losing my life while waiting for someone else.

So I booked the flight. ✈️

What’s something you’ve been waiting for?

Based on facts 🌴✈️ Can you relate?

"What do you like to do for fun?"

Leave the country.

New places, new people, new stories.
Every single time.

At what point does it stop being a hobby and become a personality trait? 😂

Guatemala, one of the most heartwarming places I’ve experienced so far. A destination that still crosses my mind almost daily. And now in my top 5 favorites.

After being lucky enough to solo travel to so many beautiful places around the world, Guatemala instantly became one of the places that touched me the most.

The people, the atmosphere, the volcanoes, Lake Atitlán, the coffee, the food, UNESCO Antigua… this country has a soul that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it yourself.

I met beautiful humans I still speak to from time to time, and I’m grateful to now call some incredible Guatemalans my friends.

I travelled here with my new camera, and I’m so thankful I was able to capture parts of this beautiful country through my own eyes, while also collaborating with amazing companies along the way.

I remember my eyes being teary while being on a boat at Lake Atitlan, and the moment I saw the Volcano erupt during the hike - one of the most challenging things I have ever done.

Some places impress you.
Others stay with you.
Guatemala did both. 🌋🇬🇹

Wait for the end! ✈️
Some women wait for love to start living.
I booked the ticket anyway.

Some of the most beautiful moments of my life happened because I stopped waiting, for permission, for certainty, for someone to come with me.

Solo travelling taught me that freedom can be lonely sometimes, but also deeply empowering. It gave me sunsets in countries I once only dreamed about, strangers that became memories, confidence I never learned at home, and versions of myself I would’ve never met if I stayed safe.

I may not have everything figured out yet, but I’ve lived. Deeply. Wildly. Internationally.
And honestly? That already makes me rich in life.

I know it’s not a possibility for every woman in the world to do this. Something travel also showed me over and over again.
