Special (Outfit) Shoot

Hi everyone! About a month ago, I visited Guatemala, a place that had been high on my list for a very long time. During my annual longer stay in Mexico, I decided to fly from Cancún to Guatemala for about eight days. After all, it’s only a 1 hour and 15 minute flight.

During my visit, I spent three days at Lake Atitlán. I had a collaboration with Free Cerveza, one of the most popular boutique hostels on the lake. I can honestly say that Lake Atitlán is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I’ve never been to Lake Como in Italy, but honestly, it already feels overrated to me compared to this breathtaking place.

What makes this lake so special is that it is surrounded by volcanoes and is itself an imploded volcano. You find yourself at around 1,500 meters above sea level, right on the water — something you truly feel and see.

These beautiful photos were taken by Luz, a photographer who works and stays at Free Cerveza. A beautiful Guatemalan soul who quite literally brought light to my journey. With her architectural background, she captures these images in a unique and almost timeless way. If you ask me, this could easily be a National Geographic cover.

Hi allemaal! Ongeveer een maand geleden was ik in Guatemala, een plek die al heel lang hoog op mijn lijst stond. Tijdens mijn jaarlijkse langere verblijf in Mexico besloot ik vanuit Cancún door te vliegen naar Guatemala voor zo’n acht dagen. Het was immers maar 1 uur en 15 minuten vliegen.

Tijdens mijn bezoek verbleef ik drie dagen bij Lake Atitlán. Hier had ik een samenwerking met Free Cerveza, een van de meest populaire boutique hostels aan het meer. Ik durf oprecht te zeggen dat Lake Atitlán een van de allermooiste plekken is waar ik ooit ben geweest. Ik ben zelf nog nooit bij Lake Como in Italië geweest, maar eerlijk gezegd voelt dat voor mij nu al overrated in vergelijking met deze adembenemende plek.

Wat dit meer zo bijzonder maakt, is dat het wordt omringd door vulkanen en zelf een geïmplodeerde vulkaan is. Je bevindt je hier dan ook op ongeveer 1.500 meter hoogte, midden op het water, iets wat je echt voelt en ziet.

Deze prachtige foto’s zijn genomen door Luz, een fotografe die bij Free Cerveza werkt en daar ook verblijft. Een prachtige Guatemalteekse ziel, die mijn reis letterlijk licht heeft gegeven. Door haar architectonische achtergrond weet ze deze beelden op een unieke en bijna tijdloze manier vast te leggen. Wat mij betreft is dit materiaal voor een National Geographic cover.
