Beauty Pageant Diary | Finalist at Miss Universe Netherlands (Noord-Brabant)

When I found out that, due to the new organization and my age, I had one last chance to compete in Miss Universe Netherlands (Miss Universe Noord-Brabant), I knew I had to take it. After two incredibly challenging years, I had promised myself that 2025 would be the year I took the leap—grabbing every opportunity that brings me closer to my dreams and to change my life. What made this competition extra special was that I once again achieved a milestone. I became the first-ever active Dutch flight attendant to compete as a finalist for an international beauty pageant crown—and in 2020/2021, I did the same at the Dutch Miss World. As the only and first active flight attendant (in the Netherlands and at my airline) to accomplish this, I proudly broke barriers in the industry, paving the way for those who may follow in my footsteps. I am officially the first Miss and Stewardess in the Netherlands.

Every pageant has its own unique characteristics, and this one was no exception. While (the Dutch) Miss World is centered around “Beauty with a Purpose”, focusing on social causes in a personal charity, Miss Universe (Netherlands) had a more commercial approach. A significant part of the competition involved fundraising—through votes and donations for the charity the organization works with. This highlighted how different each competition is and how they each create their own impact. The commercial side of the pageant, such as fundraising and voting, played a big role within Miss Universe Noord-Brabant. Although this is not necessarily my personal focus, I understand that it is an important aspect for the organization in their way of making an impact.

One of the most meaningful aspects of this journey was the support I received from incredible people. Alejandra, whom I’ve known since the pageant of 2020 and who was crowned Miss Universe Guatemala, was a huge support. She helped me prepare for my casting day, but beyond that, I am incredibly grateful for the friendship we have built over the years.

Toen ik hoorde dat ik, door de nieuwe organisatie en mijn leeftijd, nog één keer de kans had om deel te nemen aan Miss Universe Noord-Brabant, wist ik dat ik deze kans moest grijpen. Na twee enorm uitdagende jaren had ik mezelf voorgenomen dat 2025 het jaar zou worden waarin ik in het diepe zou springen en alle mogelijkheden zou benutten die me dichter bij mijn dromen brengen. Wat deze verkiezing extra speciaal maakte, was dat ik opnieuw een mijlpaal mocht bereiken. Als eerste actieve Nederlandse stewardess werd ik finalist in een internationale schoonheidsverkiezing, en in 2020/2021 deed ik hetzelfde bij de Nederlandse Miss World. Daarmee doorbrak ik een barrière binnen mijn airline industrie en zette ik een stap vooruit voor anderen die in mijn voetsporen willen treden. Ik ben officieel de eerste Miss én Stewardess in Nederland.

Elke verkiezing heeft zijn eigen kenmerken en aanpak, en dat merkte ik ook deze keer weer. Waar (de Nederlandse) Miss World volledig gericht was op “Beauty with a Purpose”, waarbij maatschappelijke betrokkenheid met een geheel eigen project als goed doel centraal staan, had deze verkiezing een andere, meer commerciële insteek. Er lag veel focus op het ophalen van geld voor het goede doel, zowel via stemmen als voor het goede doel waarmee de organisatie samenwerkt. Dit benadrukt hoe verschillend elke verkiezing is en hoe ze elk hun eigen manier hebben om impact te maken. De commerciële kant van de verkiezing, zoals fondsenwerving en stemmen, speelde een grote rol binnen Miss Universe Noord-Brabant. Hoewel dit niet per se mijn persoonlijke focus is, begrijp ik dat het voor de organisatie een belangrijk aspect is in hun manier van impact maken.

Wat deze ervaring extra bijzonder maakte, was de steun die ik heb gekregen van verschillende mensen. Alejandra, die ik al ken sinds Miss World Nederland en zelf Miss Universe Guatemala is geweest, was daarin een grote steun. Ze heeft me af en toe geholpen en me goed voorbereid op de castingdag. Maar wat voor mij nog waardevoller was, is de vriendschap die we in de loop der jaren hebben opgebouwd.

Another moment that gave me confidence was my training with the speech coach. After a previous session together, she even told me that she didn’t know what else she could teach me. This was a huge affirmation of how much I had grown over the years and how prepared I was.

One of the things I valued most about this experience was the opportunity to share my message. A major highlight was my interview with ReisBizz, a magazine that published my story, and my TV interview with DTV Nieuws. I truly enjoyed reaching out to the press myself and seeing how my story was able to reach a wider audience. It made me feel like I was making an impact and using my voice in a meaningful way.

Beyond that, there were several moments in the competition that I truly enjoyed. The hairstyling session and the makeup shoot were fun experiences that allowed me to embrace the glamorous side of pageantry. This stunning makeup shoot was done by Timac Beauty, specially for my final look.

I am also incredibly grateful to Aline Hair Design. I won the title of “Miss Aline Hair Design”, which means I get to promote her salon while receiving many free hair treatments in return. As a Miss, that is definitely something I deeply appreciate!

Een ander moment dat me veel bevestiging gaf, was mijn training met de speech coach. Na een eerdere sessie samen zei ze zelfs dat ze niet meer wist wat ze me nog kon leren. Dit gaf me het vertrouwen dat ik goed voorbereid was en dat ik wist wat ik wilde overbrengen.

Wat deze ervaring voor mij zo waardevol maakte, was de mogelijkheid om mijn boodschap te delen. Een absoluut hoogtepunt was mijn interview met ReisBizz, een tijdschrift dat mijn verhaal publiceerde, en het tv-interview met DTV Nieuws. Ik vond het geweldig om de pers zelf te benaderen en te ervaren hoe mijn verhaal een groter publiek kon bereiken. Dit gaf me het gevoel dat ik echt impact kon maken en mijn stem kon laten horen.

Daarnaast waren er een aantal bijzondere momenten in de verkiezing zelf die ik echt heb genoten. Het kappersbezoek en de visagieshoot waren leuke ervaringen, waarbij ik kon genieten van de glamourkant van het traject. Deze prachtige visagieshoot werd gedaan door Timac Beauty, speciaal voor mijn finalelook.

Verder ben ik ontzettend dankbaar voor Aline Hair Design. Ik heb van haar de titel “Miss Aline Hair Design” gewonnen, wat betekent dat ik haar kapsalon mag promoten en in ruil daarvoor veel gratis haarbehandelingen krijg. Als Miss is dat natuurlijk iets waar ik erg dankbaar voor ben!

On finals day, everything came together—the months of preparation, the challenges, the special moments, and the personal growth I experienced. However, just like in 2021, I once again found myself outside the top rankings of the competition.

That disappointment is real, but what I know for sure is this:

My worth is not defined by a title, judges, or a crown. I showed up as my authentic, passionate, and determined self—and that is something no one can ever take away from me.

For now, I am taking a moment to process this setback, but I will come back stronger.

What I take away from this experience is not just the chance to be on stage, but more importantly, the people I’ve met, the lessons I’ve learned, and the confidence I’ve built.

This was an opportunity to share my story, to grow in ways I never expected, and to push myself beyond my comfort zone. I am grateful to have had this journey and proud of everything I’ve accomplished.

2025 is the year of taking the leap. And this experience was the perfect start.

Op de finaledag kwam alles samen. De maandenlange voorbereiding, de uitdagingen, de mooie momenten en de groei die ik had doorgemaakt. Toch viel ik, net als in 2021, buiten de top rankings van de competitie.

Dat is een teleurstelling die ik moest verwerken, maar wat ik weet is dit:

Mijn waarde wordt niet bepaald door een titel, juryleden of een kroon. Ik stond daar als mijn authentieke, gepassioneerde en vastberaden zelf—en dat is iets wat niemand mij ooit kan afnemen.

Voor nu neem ik een moment om deze tegenslag te verwerken, maar ik kom sterker terug.

Wat ik meeneem uit deze ervaring is niet alleen de kans om op een podium te staan, maar vooral de mensen die ik heb ontmoet, de lessen die ik heb geleerd en het vertrouwen dat ik heb opgebouwd.

Dit was een kans om mezelf te laten zien, om mijn verhaal te delen en om te groeien op een manier die ik nooit had verwacht. Ik ben dankbaar dat ik deze reis opnieuw heb mogen maken en kijk met trots terug op alles wat ik heb bereikt.

2025 is het jaar van in het diepe springen. En deze ervaring was daar de perfecte start van.
